Aging Well Inc. History
1970s: Founding and Early Growth
Aging Well Inc., originally known as Senior Services Inc., was founded in 1974 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, to address the growing needs of the elderly community. The organization began with a focus on providing essential nutrition services through its Congregate Meal Program, which became central to its mission.

1980s: Program Expansion
Throughout the 1980s, the organization expanded its offerings to include wellness programs, exercise classes, and social activities, enhancing the overall well-being of seniors. This expansion was supported by additional funding, allowing for more comprehensive health and wellness initiatives.

1990s: Community Integration
In the 1990s, Senior Services Inc. strengthened its community ties by forming partnerships with local businesses, healthcare providers, and social service organizations. This period also saw the introduction of adult day care services, providing a safe and engaging environment for seniors while offering caregivers much-needed respite.

2000s: Service Enhancement The early 2000s brought further growth, with the organization introducing specialized programs for managing chronic diseases and expanding its wellness initiatives. These efforts were designed to meet the specific health challenges faced by the elderly, ensuring they received tailored care and support.

2010s: Rebranding and Strategic Growth
In 2019, the organization rebranded as Aging Well Inc., reflecting its broader mission to promote healthy aging across Northern Rhode Island. Under Barbara Waterman’s leadership, the organization expanded its programs, including digital literacy training. These initiatives became crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic, helping seniors stay connected and access essential services.

2020s: Leadership Transition and Rapid Modernization
In May 2024, Ryan MacLeod became the Executive Director, leading a period of rapid modernization and improvement. He focused on enhancing the center’s aesthetics, incorporating advanced technology, and expanding the range of activities to better serve both seniors and adults with disabilities. His leadership has brought innovative programs and a renewed energy to the organization, positioning Aging Well Inc. as a leader in senior care and services in Northern Rhode Island.
